Prof. Jana was born at Bagdanga, India in 1980. He completed his graduation in chemistry in 2002 from Dinabandhu Andrews college, Calcutta University. Then he moved to Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and received MS in chemical science. His MS thesis was completed with Professor N. Jayaraman in 2005. In that year, he received Ph.D. fellowship from International Graduate School of Chemistry at the University of Muenster (GSC-MS), Germany and joined to the group of Professor Armido Studer at the same university for doctoral studies. Within 3 years, in 2008 he defended his thesis on synthetic organic chemistry and obtained his Ph.D. degree. He moved to the group of Professor Karl Gademann first at EPFL and then University of Basel, Switzerland for his postdoctoral research stay. Then in 2011, he came back to India and started his independent research career in the Department of Chemistry at Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati as an Assistant Professor. His research and teaching interests centers on synthetic organic chemistry.
