Dr. Arijit Sur received his M.Sc. and M.Tech. degrees from University of Calcutta in 2001 and 2003, respectively. He earned his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 2010. Dr. Sur joined the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati as an Assistant Professor in 2009 and is currently serving there as a Professor. His research primarily focuses on deep learning approaches for solving various computer vision problems, including image and video restoration, super-resolution, semantic segmentation, and change detection. His work spans multiple application domains such as underwater vision, satellite and remote sensing image analysis, medical imaging, and media forensics. His research group is also actively engaged in several machine learning–based areas, including zero-shot learning, semi-supervised learning, robotic vision, and machine learning techniques for adaptive video streaming in 5G environments. Dr. Sur founded the “Multimedia Lab” in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) in 2012. Currently, eight research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. research under his supervision, while twelve students have already completed their doctoral studies under his guidance. He has co-authored more than 120 research papers published in leading journals and premier international conferences. At present, he serves as an Associate Editor of Multimedia Systems Journal, published by Springer.
